Fifth Sunday Praise Service January 29 at 6 p.m.

New this year, Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren is offering a 5th Sunday Praise Service. This casual evening service will include an opening time of praise music, a message, and a time for prayer and ministry. The first one is set for 6 p.m. January 29.

What this service is NOT: This service is not an attempt to change the nature of Beaver Creek and its regular worship services.

What this service OFFERS: An addition to the already wonderful programs and events that Beaver Creek offers to our congregation and community, an opportunity for laity to speak and share (including youth) and a way for those in the congregation to develop and utilize their musical and ministry gifts.

We encourage any youth or adult that would like an opportunity to share the message and/or participate in the music to let us know. Contact Regina Harlow if you are interested.

“Discover Life” Bible reading in 2012

Starting over . . . sooner or later, families, children, parents, students and employees need to start over. Spiritually we all need to discover life from time to time. Make 2012 a time to discover new life by reading the Bible daily! Plan to join our “Discover Life” ministry in the New Year. We will read the entire Bible in 2012, a few chapters at a time. Here are the current readings:

__ Feb 19: Acts 18-20
__ Feb 20: Acts 21-23
__ Feb 21: Acts 24-26
__ Feb 22: Acts 27-28
__ Feb 23: Romans 1-3
__ Feb 24: Romans 4-7
__ Feb 25: Romans 8-10
__ Feb 26: Romans 11-13

If you’re interested in joining this ministry, here are a few notes: Extra commitment cards and extra copies of the Bible reading plan are available in the vestibule at the church or online here. The pitcher that was used to receive our commitment pledges on January 1 will remain on the altar for the next couple of weeks. For those who still wish to make the commitment, just drop your card in the pitcher and it will be added to the others. So far, at least 25 individuals have committed to reading through the bible this year. Please consider joining, if you have not done so yet. Commitments will be kept confidential.

Reorganization plan available

A plan for reorganizing Beaver Creek Church’s governing structure is now available online and in print copies. The plan was developed by a committee appointed by the 2011 Church Board. A full presentation is set for the February congregational business meeting. If reaction is favorable, a vote will be taken at a special called congregational business meeting in March.

The central idea behind the plan is to make our structure more effective and serving more attractive. Below are files that provide full details. In advance of the February presentation, all kinds of questions are welcome — details, clarifications, or questions about the underlying ideas. Please contact the committee chair, Tim Grove, or any member of the committee: Donna Miller, Marlin Simmons, Mike Suter, Terry Houff, Bill Wood or Glenn Bollinger. We are excited about the possibilities of this plan for Beaver Creek.

Fellowship hall: construction update

Fellowship hall reconstruction is now complete and the renovated area is now in full use. Construction pictures are available at http://www.beavercreekchurchva.org/217/, (or just click on “Construction 2011” in the menu bar above) together with a reprinted report from the March 2011 newsletter about the construction from the stewards. Below are pictures showing the day construction began, the day that crossing steel beams were finished, and the almost-done fellowship hall hosting the Easter sunrise breakfast.

We are a small church located near Bridgewater, Virginia. Our church offers weekly services, Sunday School classes for all ages, and a small caring faith community. Our church’s mission statement says: Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren is a loving, caring and authentic fellowship of believers empowered by the Holy Spirit and called to be God’s church: to worship, humbly serve others and proclaim Jesus Christ.

Church leadership: Our pastor is Glenn Bollinger, a graduate of Bridgewater College and Bethany Theological Seminary who has been serving with his family at Beaver Creek since 1993.
